30. Alexis Dubus: Festival Circuit & Alt Gigs

We were very honoured to have UK Comedian Alexis Dubus (AKA Marcel Lucont) come on to the podcast slap bang between the NZ Comedy Festival and a nationwide tour.

There is so much good stuff in this episode from Alexis that we didn’t even have a funny title. It’s full of good stories about Edinburgh and the world comedy circuit. As well as where New Zealand fits on the circuit.

He talks to us about his first hour show that he took to Edinburgh and ended up taking him all over the wold. The time he accidentally send shock waves through the comedy with a little Facebook rant about a certain Australian fringe festival.

We talk a bit about the creation of the character that may be more famous that Alexis himself – arogant French compère Marcel LuCont – and a lot about the gig Alexis ran where Marcel first appeard.

Also the God Father of NZ comedy intefrupts us for a bit. And we get to hear about the international legendary status of New Zealand’s own Classic Comedy Club.

29 Nick Rado Part 1: Corporate Gigs & Sesame Street

Nick Rado is one of the few comedians in New Zealand making a half decent living from telling jokes and he’s got no shortage of advice for us.

Join us in a pillow fort out the back of the Thursday night Pro show at the Classic as we catch Nick before he gets up to headline the Show.

Nick lets us know the truth behind doing ‘corporate’ gigs, how he deals with terrible gigs and shares some insect facts he recently learnt.

Also famous internet person and co-host of ‘The Worst Idea of All Time Podcast’ – Guy Montgomery stops by to chat about a terrible gig that he and Nick had together, before getting on stage himself.

28. Good Chat 3: Real Scott & The Sarge

Tiredness and sickness strip away the guys’ ability to filter themselves… or hold a coherent conversation for too long.

In a rare, edited conversation, Dave and Scott discuss Dave dipping his toes into character comedy, Scott developing his on stage persona and what the ‘real’ Scott is like.

27. Louise Beuvink: Goal Post Shift & Spiced Windmill Cookies

Louise has put some serious thought into comedy and what it takes to have a comedy career. And she’s more than happy to share her knowledge with us. Scott and Dave take a seat at Louise’s feet and let her drop advice bombs all over the place.

We get into why the New Zealand comedy scene is so supportive and paying it forward. The ever shifting goals of comedians. Writing in a ‘Writing Room’ and Dave ‘venomously’ disagrees with Louise and Scott about winning the lottery.

Also she brought Cookies!

26. Tessa Waters: Half Goose & Character Comedy

How good is this, Tessa Waters! She’s like a full time, world touring comic. And she’s not even from this country!

Tessa met us in a green room in the middle of the New Zealand International Comedy festival and had a real good chat about comedy, character comedy, clowning, being yourself, kids shows, touring and more.
After that we got to see her show ‘Womanz’. Which seriously, guys… you need to see her and see her Live, it was incredible and a highlight of our fest.

25. David Correos: Eyeliner Mustaches & Lion Tamers

Oh My God! It’s 2016 Billy T Award Winner David Correos!

Firstly this is amazing! Such a fun episode. Things get a bit crazy because of 2016 Billy T Award Winner David Correos, but there is also a real good comedy chat with our 2016 Billy T Award Winner David Correos.

Secondly, I’m lead to believe that if I fill this description with 2016 Billy T Award Winner David Correos, then it will come up when people search for 2016 Billy T Award or David Correos.

2016 Billy T Award Winner David Correos, Dave and Scott get into growing facial hair, who’s sleeping on 2016 Billy T Award Winner David Correos’ couch, weird gigs and the love of comedy.

Oh, and Dave coins his best phrase yet!

24. Good Chat! 2: Being in the Moment & Live Shows

Scott and Dave sat down in the laundry to record a Good Chat, but then had a deep and meaningful conversation that was unfit for recording. So after that, they hit record and had a Good Chat.

So this one, might get a little deeper and more honest than normal, and as such is a damn good chat.

They get into what it means to be in the moment on stage. Then get super gushy about shows they saw during (the first 2 weeks of) the 2016 NZ International Comedy Festival.

We also gush over Angella Dravid.

23. Raw Finalists 2016: Comedy Style & Nana’s Handwriting

We Managed to wrangle five of the 2016 Raw Comedy Quest Finalists in for a chat, a week before the big show.

Hary Thompson-cook, Alice Snedden, Lana Walters, Inosi Colavanua and James Mustapic made it to the Laundry to introduce themselves and chat comedy with Scott & Dave.

It’s a little different this week with a more body’s than we have microphones and the sound is a bit shitty for the first half thanks to technical difficulties (which definitely have nothing to do with Scott not hitting the record button again).

Stick around for a great chat and some hilarious moments from the future of New Zealand Comedy.

22. Chris Mac: MCing & Day Jobs

A lot of comedians – especially here in New Zealand – have day jobs that pay the bills. Chris Mac’s day job just happens to be creating bass riffs, recording albums, and touring around the world with his band Six60.

Chris chats with Dave and Scott about finding time to gig between (music) gigs. Dealing with the perception that he’s not allowed to be a comedian because he’s a successful musician and how much Dave looks like the corpse from weekend at Bernie’s.

Also Scott and Dave both manage to figure out how their life is pretty much exactly like Chris’s. And Dave learns that buffalo wings aren’t made from buffalos.

Damn this was a fun one.
